Elkhart County commissioners on Oct. 27 approved a special purchase resolution allowing the sheriff's office to buy firearms from Acme Sports Incorporated under a government discount and trade‑in arrangement.
Steve Olsen, the county attorney, explained the special purchase resolution is appropriate under the county's bidding procedures when significant cost savings are available through a vendor's government discount. Olsen said the county received two quotes; one totaled $103,905 and a second quote included a trade‑in allowance of $146,055 that reduces the net cost.
The board approved the special purchase resolution by unanimous voice vote. Commissioners did not provide additional contract details at the meeting.
