Board discusses transition of school-board general counsel; Caparicci expected to present contract

The Citrus County School Board discussed an anticipated change in its legal representation during the meeting's legal-matters segment. Mister Bradshaw said he does not plan to retire from legal practice but will step down as the district’s general counsel; associate counsel Mister Caparicci is expected to present a proposed contract for the board’s consideration in advance of the organizational meeting.

Staff described the current arrangement as one in which Mister Bradshaw’s office contracted with the district and associate counsel (Caparicci) served in an associate role. Board members asked when they would see the proposed replacement contract; staff said the new contract would be provided for review by early next week so members could examine it prior to the next organizational meeting. Members discussed whether the board conducts formal evaluations of outside counsel; staff noted evaluations are more common where counsel is in-house rather than retained as outside counsel.

Miss Greco and staff said they and Mister Caparicci were reviewing the proposed contract and planned to distribute it to board members at the next meeting for comment. The board did not take a vote on a replacement during the session; staff described the next steps as issuance of a draft contract and a review period for board members.
