Councilor Mark Farwell told colleagues Oct. 27 that the real estate committee will consider the disposition of 7 Commercial St., the city's current police-station site, at a meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m. He asked councilors to pay particular attention to the item and to ensure the city establishes an appraised value and clear parameters for future use under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 30B, Section 16.
Farwell said the city has at times represented a minimum value of $3,000,000 for the parcel but that he had not seen an appraisal. He warned that if the council merely refers the matter without setting expectations, it risks losing control over what may be located on one of the city's premier downtown parcels.
No vote or disposition decision occurred at the Oct. 27 meeting; Farwell said he may move for a continuance if committee materials are not provided by Wednesday. The matter remains with the real estate committee for further consideration.
