The Mecklenburg County Public Schools board voted on Oct. 20 to proceed with the Public-Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act (PPEA) procurement process for a new La Crosse Elementary School and to move forward with acquiring a recommended site on Canaan Church Road.
Mister Dalton presented the project summary and the PPEA resolution, explaining the board27s choice to solicit design-build proposals under PPEA in lieu of unsolicited proposals while the district completes due diligence and master planning. A motion to approve the PPEA procurement approach passed on a roll-call vote.
Following the PPEA vote, the board considered and approved a motion to acquire property on Canaan Church Road that district staff recommended after land studies. Board members were told the proposed site lies approximately 1,200 yards west of the current building and is on the same side of the road.
Board members noted the next procedural step: the county Board of Supervisors must consider the school board27s recommendation and exercise an option to purchase the property in their upcoming meeting. The board recorded its approval by roll call during the meeting.
