Plainview ' The Plainview Independent School District board on Thursday voted 6'00 to approve a 2025'26 local improvement plan for Plainview Junior High aimed at raising math achievement and attendance for identified student groups.
School staff told trustees the campus has been designated for "targeted support" under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) because performance shortfalls were identified among Hispanic students and students who are continuously enrolled in the district. Missus Carrasco, who presented the plan to the board, said the campus set the goal to increase the percentage of students meeting grade level on the math STAR assessment by 20 percent by May 2026 and to raise attendance by 5 percent in the same period.
The plan lists specific strategies for reaching those goals: targeted small-group instruction, ongoing progress monitoring, expanded use of data-driven interventions, biweekly classroom visits and feedback by administrators and instructional specialists, monthly collaborative planning with instructional coaches, daily PLCs for teachers, and a dedicated staff position (in partnership with Communities in Schools) to monitor attendance and conduct family outreach. Staff also said benchmarks, walk-throughs and progress-monitoring tools will be used to measure implementation and that the district intends to submit the plan to the state by March 2026 with evaluation of STAR results in June 2026.
Board member Miss Rivera moved to approve the plan; Miss Ray seconded. With no recorded opposition, the motion passed 6'00.
Trustees asked questions about alignment with districtwide attendance initiatives and professional learning supports. Presenters said the junior-high targets were chosen to align with state-established targets and district priorities, and that the instructional work follows practices piloted at other campuses. Staff emphasized the plan's reliance on frequent data review and coaching to convert planning work into classroom practice.
Implementation steps outlined in the plan include: setting literacy and mathematics intervention strategies by Nov. 14, weekly or biweekly data reviews in PLCs, a staffing partnership to support attendance outreach, and a schedule for adjusting strategies through April 2026 ahead of final evaluation when STAR results are available.
The approval authorizes campus leaders and central-office staff to implement the plan and to pursue related supports and materials the plan identifies.
