District approves construction change orders, final payments; Southside High at roughly 65% complete

At its Oct. 9 meeting the Santa Rosa County School Board approved several construction-related change orders and final payments and heard progress updates on multiple projects.
DAG Architects reported Southside High School is roughly 65% complete and that site work, courtyard landscaping, gym-floor installation and site sports facilities are progressing; the gym floor sealer was scheduled to begin the day after the meeting, which requires a cure period before use. The East Wing cabinets and ceiling work and preliminary punch-list activity on the West Wing were noted.
The board approved a change order for contractor T.R. Jackson addressing unforeseen conditions including a damaged sanitary line, additional waterproofing, new lintels and tie-in to an existing lift station not shown on earlier surveys. The net result of the six items was a credit of $2,446.91 to the district; the board approved the recommendation unanimously.
McKim & Creed requested a deductive change order of $8,513.69 for limited stormwater improvements that were removed from the North End 2025 athletic surfaces safety rehab scope after the pre-construction meeting determined more extensive work would be required (to be handled under a separate future contract). The board also approved final payments of $13,999.19 to Rhodes Inc. of Northwest Florida and $6,804 to McKim & Creed.
Sam Marshall Architects reported on the Center for Innovation (exterior roll-up doors and drywall installed) and Jay Elementary cafeteria work. A change order for Jay Elementary of $7,874.58 was approved to construct an ADA ramp, repair a canopy-affected area of concrete, and repaint an exterior door where paint failures were discovered.
All construction and payment motions were approved unanimously and staff said they will continue to monitor punch lists and outstanding corrections such as window-installation fixes at Wallace Lake K-8.
