Santa Rosa board approves Jennifer Schmidt as Navarre High principal

The Santa Rosa County School Board on Oct. 9 unanimously approved Jennifer Schmidt as the next principal of Navarre High School, Superintendent Dr. Barber said during the meeting. Schmidt's appointment takes effect Jan. 5, when Casey Windfelter begins as principal at Soundside High School.
Dr. Barber told the board the district interviewed three qualified candidates and that Schmidt stood out for her instructional leadership and long association with Navarre High School. Schmidt has served as an assistant principal at Navarre High and previously worked as a teacher and a teacher on special assignment focused on science instruction, Dr. Barber said. Schmidt thanked the board and said she was raised in Santa Rosa County Schools and called serving as Navarre High principal 'a special opportunity.
Board member Mrs. Sanborn moved to approve the recommendation; Mr. Hayden seconded. The motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
The board did not attach other conditions to the appointment at the meeting. The recommendation as stated identifies Jan. 5 as the principal's start date; additional employment paperwork and HR processing will follow normal district procedures, officials said.
