The Bristol Zoning Commission declined to act on new regulations for smoke and vape shops and transmitted a letter to the council recommending that the ordinance committee take up the issue. The zoning commission stated it has concerns about health risks to customers but believes the ordinance committee is the better venue for drafting regulations.
Councilor Cheryl Tebow said she will place the matter on next month’s ordinance committee agenda to pursue regulatory language and to consider rules for license renewals and existing facilities. The council voted to accept the zoning commission’s report.
No ordinance was adopted at the joint meeting; staff and councilors said they intend to continue work through the ordinance committee and solicit public input.
