The Bristol City Council unanimously approved a resolution to increase the household income eligibility for the city’s senior homeowner tax‑relief program to a maximum of $75,000 per year, including Social Security retirement benefits. The resolution amends the program established under Connecticut General Statute Section 12‑129n; all other program requirements remain unchanged.
Councilors also reauthorized the Senior Volunteer Tax Relief program, which provides tax credits for qualifying senior citizens who volunteer with qualifying organizations. Council members said the $75,000 cap was selected to bring additional eligible households into the program and that staff had analyzed demographic data to set the new threshold.
The council conducted a roll call vote on the resolutions and approved both measures without recorded opposition. Officials encouraged outreach so eligible seniors who are unaware of the program can apply.
