Pocomoke roof project completed; Worcester Technical intercom/clock system to be replaced after lightning strike

Worcester County facilities staff told the Board of Education on Oct. 21 that the Pocomoke Elementary School roof replacement is complete and the district requested payment of final requisitions.
"We were substantially complete on Aug. 31 . . . and we finished our final punch list items, Oct. 18," facilities director Sam Slacom said. The board approved requisitions 3 and 4 for the project by voice vote.
Separately, Worcester Technical High School sustained a lightning strike on Sept. 18 that traveled into the building and damaged several systems, most significantly the intercom and clock network. Slacom said the existing system was beyond its useful life and not supported by the original manufacturer.
The district received contractor pricing through an intergovernmental contract and recommended ArcSystems for the replacement. The board approved an ArcSystems contract of $222,890 to replace the integrated intercom and clock system. Facilities staff said the replacement is being funded through the district's insurance claim.
Board members thanked Sam Slacom and Pocomoke staff for cooperative planning that allowed staging and weekend work to complete the roof project before the school year.
