Parks and Recreation Manager John Tang presented a request from the Tyson Medical Foundation and Inferno to host a family night as part of cattle call festivities on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 6 to 10 p.m. The foundation requested permission for alcohol sales, a road closure on North Plaza from Main Street to Fifth Street and waiver of city fees.
Tang said staff had prepared signage and K-rails for the closure and recommended approval. The event program will include line dancing, a mechanical bull ride and a showing of Thursday Night Football; attendance was estimated at about 150 people.
A representative for the Tyson Medical Foundation (Joanie) described the foundation's community work and said the foundation has plans to expand scholarships, youth support and a future senior food program.
"This is actually a nice addition to our cattle call festivities," Tang said. Councilmembers praised the event as an enhancement to community activities; a motion to approve the event, alcohol sales, road closure and fee waivers carried.
Staff will implement the approved closure plan and monitor event operations per the standard special event procedures.
