Jackson County committee recommends $216,293 contract for ADA-accessible sheriff transport van

The Jackson County Justice and Law Enforcement Committee on Aug. 18 recommended adoption of resolution 21985 to award a contract to Gary Crossley Ford of Kansas City, Missouri, under State of Missouri contract MC250182001 for two sheriff transport vans at a county cost of $216,293.

Deputy Director of Administration Dolores Wells told the committee the county began a practice last year of purchasing new vehicles annually to replace high-mileage units and reduce incidents of breakdowns during inmate transports. “So basically, this is our, we started a practice a year or so ago where we were gonna try to get new vehicles every year,” Wells said.

Wells said one of the vans will be adapted to carry wheelchairs so inmates who cannot walk can still be transported to court or appointments. “The 1 particular van is actually, we're able to transport wheelchairs,” she said. She added that vehicles require modifications such as cages and other adaptations and that staff want to begin the work early to avoid running into fiscal-year-end timing problems.

Chair Vanessa Husky asked for questions and, hearing none, asked for a motion to recommend adoption. A motion and second were made (names not recorded). The chair called for a voice vote and, after members present said “aye” and no opposition was voiced, she announced, “the committee will recommend resolution 21985 for adoption.”

The resolution, as read into the record, awards the contract under the terms and conditions of State of Missouri contract number MC250182001 and lists the county cost as $216,293. The committee meeting record did not include a roll-call vote tally or the names of the members who moved and seconded the motion.

The item will proceed to the next governing body (not specified in the committee record) for final action.
