Cleburne County adds resolution asking state delegation to create local Economic Development Authority

The Cleburne County Commission voted to add and approve a resolution supporting creation of a Cleburne County Economic Development Authority and to forward a draft local act to the county’s legislative delegation for introduction in Montgomery. "Yes. It is a resolution supporting the creation of the Cleburne County Economic Development Authority," an unidentified county staff member said as the proposal was presented.

According to comments during the meeting, the draft local legislation is being prepared by county staff. The staff member said Jason has a local legislation draft and that Senator Price asked to have the proposal in his hands by the end of November. The staff member also said county attorney review is underway. "Jason has the local legislation draft and is working on that. But this has to go before you and get approval for us to send it to Montgomery, and talking to Senator Price last week, he wanted it in his hand by the end of November," the staff member said.

Commissioners approved adding the resolution to the agenda and the motion carried by voice vote. The commission directed staff to forward the resolution and draft bill to the local legislative delegation for review and consideration as required by local procedure.

The item was added to the agenda as a formal resolution; no final state-level action has yet occurred. The resolution as read requests that the delegation introduce and support local legislation to establish the authority and that the draft bill be prepared and advertised as required for introduction.
