The Elkhart City Common Council voted unanimously to adopt two annexation ordinances on July 7.
Proposed ordinance 25‑O‑20, described on the record as an ordinance annexing vacant land on Greenleaf Boulevard and at the east end of Vernon Avenue, was read at second reading and, after a brief council discussion about preserving the area’s quiet residential character, was adopted on third reading by a roll‑call vote of 9–0.
Proposed ordinance 25‑O‑21 was likewise read and adopted after a second and third reading process; the council recorded a final 9–0 vote in favor. Council members noted that several of the annexations before the body are concentrated in the city’s northeast and urged staff to continue looking for opportunities across other parts of the city.
Both ordinances passed without public comment at the council meeting. The council took separate motions for second and third readings as recorded in the official minutes. Recorded motions on the floor, roll‑call votes, and the final tallies were entered into the meeting record.
