Madison County dispatch reports NextGen 9-1-1 grant application, staffing updates and recognizes trainee Nicole Whitaker

Ashley, dispatch center staff, told the board total 9-1-1 calls through the center for the reporting period and provided comparative call-percentage figures versus the prior period. She said the center is accepting donations for school supplies to be distributed through Madison social services and will staff a booth at Taste of the Mountains.
Ashley reported the county applied for an additional NextGen 9-1-1 funding grant of $250,000 and said the review panel is expected to meet July 17. She said the grant was filed through the state PSAP grant committee and 9-1-1 services board.
Ashley said the center currently has two vacancies, one staff member in training, and that Dispatcher Whitaker graduated from the academy and is projected to be released to her own position by August.
Board members presented a certificate of recognition from the board to Nicole Whitaker for completing basic emergency communications training; staff asked Whitaker to join the board for a group photo.
No formal funding decision was made at the meeting. Staff said they are continuing recruitment and will await the state grant committee’s decision.
