Tammy Bruce, State Department spokesperson, announced that the Department of State will assume direct administration of U.S. foreign assistance programs previously run by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Bruce said the change "puts US taxpayers and American priorities first" and said the reorganization is intended to improve "accountability, strategy, and efficiency."
