West Bend Public Library sustains interior flood damage; programs relocated while repairs proceed

The West Bend Public Library reported extensive interior flood damage at the council meeting on Sept. 8 that affected the entrance, circulation desk, the Library Rec Center (LRC) and basement spaces.
Library staff said water damaged carpeting, electrical conduits in the floor that must be rewired, the elevator, dance floors in the LRC and大量 drywall and shelving. Staff said no books were destroyed and the library is open through a temporary east-side entrance off Sixth Avenue. Several popular programs were canceled because space was limited; the library has moved story time to the Regner Beach House while repairs are underway.
Library board members and city staff acknowledged extensive coordination among departments and thanked parks and recreation and city staff, including John Fellows and Todd Meeks, for managing the incident response. The board approved its 2026 preliminary budget and other routine items at its Aug. 19 meeting while noting recovery needs.
Staff said they will pursue insurance and repair work and that the board will discuss additional recovery steps at an upcoming meeting, including the director—s annual evaluation.
