Council approves plan amendment and rezoning to allow two-family development north of Highmount Road

The Common Council voted Sept. 8 to amend the comprehensive plan and rezone roughly 0.16-0.2 acres north of Highmount Road on the west side of Stratford Road from single-family to two-family to allow a developer to build a small two-family development; neighbors at the planning meeting were generally supportive.
The Common Council voted Sept. 8 to amend the 2020 comprehensive plan and rezone land north of Highmount Road on the west side of Stratford Road to permit two-family residential development.
Planning staff said the council previously approved adjacent land-use changes in July and that this action completes the land area for the proposed two-family development. The comprehensive-plan amendment changes approximately 0.16 acres from single-family to two-family residential, and the rezoning reclassifies about 0.2 acres from RS-4 (single-family residential) to RD-2 (two-family residential).
Council members noted the project had been well received by neighbors at the plan commission and recommended the developer as building a quality product. The council approved both the land-use amendment and rezoning by voice vote.
Planning staff said the developer and builders are present and available to speak with aldermen about project details outside the meeting.
