Board announces changes to committee procedure after legal review; committees to add public comment

President Cronenberg announced governance changes the board will implement after receiving legal opinions about committee procedures. Under the guidance shared at the meeting, board members who are not members of a specific committee will be treated as members of the public during that committee’s meeting. Committees will add a public-comment agenda item and will approve their own minutes; committee minutes will no longer be ratified by the full board.
The president reviewed current committee memberships and noted some membership changes: Miss Golden Miyake moved onto the policy committee and off communications; committee chairs will run meetings and committee-specific procedures will be documented for the policy committee’s next meeting. Board members asked how the changes would be memorialized; administration said options include policy revisions, board protocols, or relying on the legal opinion as governing guidance until formal language is approved.
Board members and staff discussed public participation at committee meetings; chairs retain discretion over committee procedure but the administration encouraged community attendance and identified practical steps for admitting and identifying members of the public who wish to speak.
