Davenport commission to assess office relocation options including Fire Station 3; decision tabled until August

The Davenport City Civil Rights Commission asked Director Lacey to prepare a written assessment of office space needs and potential relocation options after City Administrator Matt Steiner flagged alternative properties, including Fire Station 3.
Lacey told commissioners that Fire Station 3 has office spaces, a parking lot and is on a bus route; she said council staff suggested it might be practical given current office privacy and space concerns. Commissioners discussed whether it would be wasteful to renovate the current space if the commission planned to move soon and asked staff to prepare a pros-and-cons comparison, list required square footage, parking needs, accessibility requirements, security and budget implications.
Commissioner Kathleen moved to table the assessment of a move, including Fire Station 3 and other possible locations, until the commission's August meeting; a second was recorded. By voice vote the motion carried. Director Lacey said she will send commissioners a breakdown of considerations and the size requirements one week before the August meeting and will request dates for tours of candidate sites.
One commissioner suggested including shared office space for commissioners as part of the requirements. Lacey said she would seek opportunities to tour Fire Station 3 and any other identified locations and bring back comparative information in August.
