The council approved a purchase of 73 Microsoft tablets and associated keyboard covers for the Police Department, obtained through New York State Office of General Services contracts.
City staff said the tablets will integrate with the department’s new records-management system and will reduce the need to outfit vehicles with aging, costly fixed computer consoles (vehicle systems were estimated in prior discussion to cost roughly $10,000 per vehicle). Staff expects the tablets to improve efficiency by allowing officers to produce reports at the scene.
The department plans training this month with a goal of rolling the tablets out by the new calendar year.
