Presenters described two monthly volunteer workdays often drawing 30–50 volunteers and said the new machine would allow crews to move material into narrow, rugged trail zones that existing equipment cannot reach.
Volunteer trail steward Sean Fiacke detailed high visitation at Irwin Park—estimated tens of thousands of visitors annually from the local running and mountain‑biking community, and regional users—and explained how improved equipment would speed erosion control work, bridge repairs and hauling for tree plantings. Board members asked about prior equipment, Dorba’s maintenance role and whether the foundation could cover partial costs if the board approved less than the full request; presenters said the foundation has obtained a trailer and is committed to maintenance but would need help to fund the full new machine.
The public hearing closed after comment; no board funding action occurred during the Jan. 23 meeting.
