Barnstable County approves amended resolution supporting SNAP during federal interruption

The Barnstable County commissioners on Nov. 5 approved an amended draft resolution from the Assembly of Delegates expressing the county's support for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and related extension services during a period of federal interruption.
The amendment added a whereas clause identifying roughly 22,000 local beneficiaries of SNAP on Cape Cod, including schoolchildren, seniors and other residents who rely on food assistance. The board also directed that a final draft be submitted to the board chair and administration before formal issuance.
The resolution text circulated to commissioners praises the extension programs' nutrition-education, food-safety and partnership work with schools and community agencies. Administrator Michael Dutton and extension staff confirmed they were coordinating with family pantries and community partners in response to the federal interruption.
A voice vote approved the amendment and then the amended resolution (voice vote: all in favor).
