New maintenance supervisor reports work‑order progress, inspections and ongoing projects

Rich Schmidt, who began in August as the county's maintenance lead, updated the Sawyer County Public Works Committee on Oct. 8 about building and equipment work completed in October. Schmidt said staff completed 74 work orders, including 37 staff requests, 30 completed requests, and 38 preventive maintenance work orders on internal equipment.
Work included building and installing storage cabinets for the Veterans Affairs office, wallpaper removal and painting in HHS office areas, courthouse signage updates to match the new courthouse, preventive maintenance on backup generators for the courthouse and jail, annual Halon fire‑suppression inspection in the new wing's IT room, and boiler state inspections. Schmidt said several county vehicles are up for auction and that the HVAC air‑handler project for the jail wing began Oct. 15 and is nearing operation pending rooftop coil and piping completion.
A DSPS safety inspection on Oct. 14 produced no deficiencies, Schmidt said. Committee members welcomed Schmidt to his new role and praised his early work. No formal action was taken on maintenance items at the meeting.
