North Logan adopts 2006 Wildland-Urban Interface code, sets municipal boundary
Summary

North Logan's City Council voted on Nov. 5 to adopt the 2006 Utah Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) code and to establish the municipal WUI boundary shown in Exhibit B of the ordinance.
Chief Thompson and staff outlined the rationale: adoption is required to maintain participation in the state Cooperative Wildland-Urban Interface program and to align municipal building-code provisions in areas at risk for wildland fire. Staff noted the state (FFSL) is finalizing high-risk mapping and training assessors; the state's fee structure and detailed assessment procedures are still being developed and are expected to be phased in through 2026'028.
Council asked about the practical effects and timing. Chief Thompson said the initial state mapping will default to a high-risk classification until trained assessors can issue property-level adjustments and that municipalities may see differences between the city's municipal WUI boundary and the state's high-risk fee map. The council requested map clarity (color/visibility) and that staff continue coordination with FFSL, the county, and UDOT for corridors affecting the city.
Emily moved to adopt the ordinance to adopt the 2006 Utah WUI code; Joanie seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Council then adopted the municipal WUI boundary as shown in Exhibit B, with a requested color adjustment for clarity.
