Representatives of the Village at Leisurewoods Homeowners Association asked the Taunton Municipal Council on Oct. 21 to schedule a meeting about rent inequities and licensing concerns affecting residents.
Anne Hartley and other association signatories said some residents pay well under $500 per month while others pay over $800 for similar amenities, and they described a perceived lack of oversight by licensing authorities. They asked the council to send a letter to the attorney general’s office and to meet with city staff so the situation can be investigated.
Council action: The council referred the communication to the Council of the Whole for a date-certain meeting on Nov. 17 and asked that the city solicitor and the Board of Health executive director be invited. The council also directed that the residents who submitted the letter be notified of the meeting.
What residents want: A meeting to explain rent disparities, review community licenses and oversight, and consider whether additional city action (including communication with state officials) is appropriate.
