Commission approves Robertsdale intersection work under county "30‑cube" matching program

The Baldwin County Commission voted to approve a county–municipal partnership to improve the intersection of State Route 104 and Palmer Street in Robertsdale, a project presented as part of the commission’s "30‑cube" matching program.

Frank Lundy, county engineer, described the project as adding turn lanes on each leg of the intersection and improving pedestrian connections to nearby city facilities and a trail. Robertsdale Mayor Campbell told commissioners the city supported the project and asked them to "please vote yes." Commissioner Underwood moved to approve FO1; Commissioner McKenzie seconded. The commission approved the motion after a voice vote in which commissioners answered "aye."

Lundy explained the 30‑cube program to the commission: the initiative encourages municipalities to propose projects that the county will match as part of a goal to assemble $30 million in local‑municipal matched projects by 2030. County staff said projects are intended to reduce congestion by providing parallel or local alternatives to Highway 59.

The commission did not attach conditions to the vote in the meeting record; staff indicated project design elements include turn lanes and pedestrian facilities and that the county and city would coordinate on engineering and right‑of‑way matters.
