Township trustee urges correction of fire‑district boundary changes; county outlines resolution/sign‑off process

Dusty Ellsworth, trustee for Centerville Township, told Neosho County commissioners on Oct. 7 that changes to emergency‑service boundaries had shifted territory away from Erie and to Galesburg without board approval and without a stated start/end date in the resolutions that were forwarded to county staff.
Ellsworth said the change had been perceived by township residents as a mistake and asked the commission to help restore the original boundaries. County staff advised all affected entities — Erie, Galesburg and Centerville Township — to pass new resolutions explicitly restoring prior boundaries and to provide signed copies to the county clerk. The county’s 9‑1‑1 contractor would then update Emergency Service Numbers (ESNs) and CAD data and submit the change to the state; staff estimated the technical update would take about two weeks after receiving the signed resolutions.
Commissioners and staff also discussed the need for a clearer internal protocol so that future fire‑district or dispatch changes are communicated to county GIS and the clerk’s office; staff recommended that any boundary or contract changes be routed through the county clerk so the county’s records and maps remain current. Several officials said that restoring the old maps quickly would minimize insurance and service disruptions for affected residents.
