Council approves two hours comp time for town employees who donate blood

Town staffer Trey presented a proposal on Sept. 17 to amend the Town of Nashville personnel policy to award two hours of compensatory time to town employees who donate blood during town-sponsored blood drives. "This policy . . . would give any employee who actually goes through the process of giving blood . . . 2 hours of comp time," Trey said, adding the idea came from Nash County and would help ensure the Red Cross or another blood provider can meet a unit threshold to come to town.
Council members spoke in support. One councilmember said, "I think it is an excellent idea . . . blood saves lives," and moved support. The council approved the amendment by voice vote. Staff said a tentative blood drive date is Dec. 5 (the Friday after Thanksgiving) pending final approval and logistics.
The amendment applies to town employees who donate or attempt to donate blood at a town-sponsored blood drive; employees will receive two hours of compensatory time to use at a future date. The council did not attach additional budgetary allocations to the policy change at the Sept. 17 meeting.
