Bayshore report: class of 2025 submitted record applications and won roughly $43 million in scholarships

BAY SHORE, N.Y. — A district staff presenter reviewed post‑graduation outcomes and application trends for the Class of 2025 at the Bay Shore Union Free School District board meeting on Sept. 25.

The presenter reported that 45% of graduates went to four‑year colleges and 34% to two‑year programs, with a rise in career and technical education and apprenticeships. “This past year, we had a record number of applications, 3,763,” the presenter said, and noted a continuing rise in applications since 2022 driven in part by direct‑admission platforms.

The speaker also listed some acceptances to selective institutions and provided counts of applications to various campuses: for example, 113 applications to Stony Brook, 52 to Molloy and dozens to out‑of‑state schools. The class received approximately $43,000,000 in scholarships, the presenter said.

School staff framed the trend as multi‑faceted: increases in outreach by colleges, free application events (SUNY free application days), and student interest in both health‑care majors and business fields. The presenter also described increased participation in early college programs (about 38–40 students earning college credit through Suffolk County programs) and expanded employer and trades partnerships, including visits and pipelines to local businesses.

Board members commended the work and discussed follow‑up topics such as counseling workloads, college application logistics, and efforts to keep students engaged with local workforce opportunities.
