Board hears construction update: windows, generator testing and Jackson Elementary bidding timeline

At the Nov. 11 meeting Tim Harder, director of facilities and technology, gave a construction update for the district’s referendum and renovation projects.

Harder said the district completed substantial window work at Greentree and McLean over the summer and noted recent progress: "this last week, they did put in the 2 pieces of glass that can constitute those 2 round, windows that are on the gym side there" (speaker 6). He said operable window assemblies for classrooms are arriving and KD (subcontractor) will begin installing those pieces so each classroom will have an operable window.

Harder reported that PA system head‑end units and clock system installations are being finalized, and that the district hopes to set a generator at GreenTree and run the building on generator power for testing over Thanksgiving. He described upcoming civil and site work next summer, including parking flow redesigns and security/playground work as early‑learning moves are reconfigured.

On Jackson Elementary, Harder said final construction documents would be printed by the end of the month, the village of Jackson has granted approvals for rezoning and the certified survey map, and bidding will open in late November with Findorff managing the pre‑bid process. He reminded vendors that bid opportunities are posted on the district’s construction link.

Board members raised questions about interior corridor windows and safety; Harder said those concerns would be taken back to designers and reiterated benefits of the window work for light, energy efficiency and quieter classrooms. No formal action was taken on construction contracts at the meeting.
