Bee County approves interlocal agreement with Bee Development Authority to sweep Chase Field runways

Bee County commissioners voted unanimously to approve an interlocal agreement with the Bee Development Authority (BDA) to sweep active and inactive runways, taxiways, ramps and tarmacs at Chase Field Airport in Beeville.
Michael Blair, BDA executive director, said the work is typically a two‑ to three‑day job and that the county has historically provided labor and fuel in partnership with the city. “One more sweep this year, and then we'll probably come back for the 2026 calendar year when we have that schedule,” Blair said, adding that the BDA is budgeting for other major projects next year.
Commissioners asked whether the BDA had considered buying its own sweeper and discussed budget constraints and auction or surplus options; Blair said the authority has looked at pricing and is focused on multi‑function equipment if purchased. The judge called the motion; the court approved the interlocal agreement without exception.
The agreement authorizes county staff participation in the scheduled sweep and sets the schedule for this calendar year; Blair said the city had proposed dates and that county staff would be coordinated to expedite the work.
