Board approves facility namings, budget actions and audit advisory policy
Summary
The Board unanimously approved naming R.J. Reynolds’ weight room the Wilson Weight Room and Thompson Stadium the Lambeth Family Field, approved Budget Amendment 6a and several routine items, and adopted Policy 34-35 creating an Audit Advisory Committee. At its Nov. 10 meeting, the Winston Salem / Forsyth County Schools Board of Education approved a slate of action items by voice vote.
Facility namings: The board approved naming the R.J. Reynolds High School weight room the Wilson Weight Room in recognition of a $135,000 private donation for equipment and renovations. Tom Elrod and Brad Fisher spoke in support of the naming, describing equipment replacement and the room’s daily instructional use. The motion to approve was made by Board Member Crowley and seconded by Board Member Watts; the motion passed unanimously.
The board also approved naming the field at Thompson Stadium the Lambeth Family Field to honor more than six decades of the Lambeth family’s service to Parkland High School. Clayton Richter described the family’s multi-generational contributions and the motion was moved by Board Member Miller and passed unanimously.
Budget and policy actions: The board approved Budget Amendment and Transfer 6a (including recognition of All In for Our Schools donations and a $50,000 capital outlay appropriation for partial land purchase to avoid retaining-wall costs). The board adopted Policy 34-35 establishing an Audit Advisory Committee and approved a tutoring RFQ and the FY2026 budget amendment and transfer number 5 as part of the consent agenda. Chair Kaplan recorded the voice votes as unanimous for each item; the transcript does not include individual roll-call tallies.
County authorization request: The board also approved a request that the Forsyth County Commissioners authorize using excess privately raised funds toward the ESS debt in accordance with the county’s dollar-for-dollar forgiveness resolution. The motion passed unanimously.
