CANNON FALLS, Minn. — City staff provided the Planning Commission an informational update on Nov. 10 on enforcement of construction deposits for new homes.
Under current practice the city collects a $2,000 construction deposit and returns it when yards are established. Staff told the commission the city will add enforceable verification of subdivision grading plans — for projects in neighborhoods such as Hardwood Estates — and will verify both grading-plan adherence and lawn establishment before releasing the deposit.
"So before I would give a deposit back to the builder, we would verify both of those things," a city staff presenter said. Staff said the change is intended to prevent grading problems that can have a domino effect on neighboring properties and stormwater control.
The item was informational only; the commission received the update and asked a few clarifying questions about sod, seeding and verification procedures. No formal action was taken.
