District staff told the board the Running Creek Elementary program offers targeted, nonpunitive behavior supports intended to help students learn regulation skills and return to general education.

The district described a three-stage model: an initial assessment to identify triggers and supports, a skill-building phase, and a reintegration phase that returns students to the broader school community. "When they came in, they needed to be in that room full time, and we are starting to get them back into general ed and to their special ed services," a presenter said.

Staff said the program is staffed by a board-certified behavior analyst and two behavior technicians; they added that the team consults with other buildings and provides professional learning for staff. The district reported three students currently enrolled and said families who have participated so far are "thrilled" the students can remain in-district rather than being sent to outside day-treatment programs.

Board members asked about sustainability and staffing. Staff acknowledged training needs and said the district is already planning how to scale the model and repurpose paraeducator time to support sustainability.

Staff characterized the initiative as prevention-focused and said it is expected to reduce suspensions for elementary students by building replacement communication behaviors and regulation skills.

Next steps: staff said they will continue to monitor outcomes and report back as the model is refined and staffed.
