Communications staff told the Sawyer County Public Safety Committee they hired two dispatchers (one in training; another starting Oct. 20) and are working with area school districts to expand camera access (Hayward and Hazel districts). The communications team is also meeting weekly with Gencom on the county radio system.
Staff reported a lapse in the 2025 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) that removed funding for the period 01/01/2025 to 09/30/2025. The presenter said the EMPG supports emergency-management positions and activities and encouraged outreach to state legislators about the funding lapse. "This grant provides emergency management positions and activities," the presenter said, adding that staff view the funding loss as a hardship for operations.
Emergency Medical Services reported it is migrating reporting from ImageTrend to a new system that includes fleet and inventory management, improved rig checks, medication tracking and DEA-related documentation. EMS also discussed several recent high-acuity traumas (ATV/UTV incidents and a brush-implement injury), annual EVOC training, and a proposed part-time, nonbenefited secretarial position that remains under budget review.
A mass-casualty incident response training is scheduled for Jan. 17 at the Stone Lake Fire Hall. Staff asked members to contact county administrators with agenda items or follow-ups.
