Street improvement process: Council introduced and adopted a preliminary resolution declaring intent to levy special assessments under Wisconsin Statute §66.0703 for the 2025 Street Improvement Plan. City staff explained this starts a process that will include public notices, an engineer’s cost report to affected property owners and a later council decision on whether to levy assessments.
TAP grant: Staff reported that the City of Milwaukee is applying for a DOT Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant for the South Power Line trail and invited St. Francis to join the application. The estimated local match for St. Francis, if it participates, is roughly $90,000. Council agreed to proceed with the application; any award would require later council approval and identification of matching funds.
Public safety reports: The police department reported 80 traffic stops in a recent two‑week period and described five high‑speed pursuits that led to recovery of drugs and weapons. The chief credited Officer Alex Conrad with performing life‑saving aid to a wounded person found on the lakefront; the chief said the patient was treated and is doing well. Fire department remarks focused on fire prevention month and lithium‑ion battery safety outreach in local schools.
What’s next: If the DOT TAP grant is awarded, council must approve acceptance of funds and identify the local match. The street project process will proceed to public notice and engineer cost determinations before any assessments are imposed.
