District outlines deeper‑learning PD, practitioner cohort and curriculum pilots

District instructional leaders presented the summer and start‑of‑year professional development plan and early evidence from classrooms.

Greg and Sarah (PD leads) said the district framed PD around four purposes: build a shared vision for instruction, deliver targeted training on specific tools, scale promising classroom practices and provide individualized support. Sarah described a ‘provocation’ model for deeper learning that helped teachers consider the zone of proximal development and design classroom routines around curiosity, agency and community.

The district launched a practitioner cohort (19 teachers) who will receive intensive coaching; new teacher orientation and grade‑band PD days were also held. Training included the DIBELS reading screener and co‑teaching strategies. The district noted a K–5 math pilot this year: participating teachers received training on the pilot curriculum ahead of potential adoption.

Board members asked how neighboring districts are approaching similar work; PD leaders said several local districts are doing comparable portrait‑of‑a‑learner and deeper‑learning efforts and the district has drawn from external resources. Trustees expressed interest in follow‑up reports from teachers and students about classroom impact later in the semester.
