Council approves lot-line adjustment to add adjacent parcel to Moriarty School property

The Norwich City Council voted Aug. 4 to authorize a deed effecting a lot-line adjustment that transfers approximately 1.38 acres from 20 Canterbury Turnpike to 20 Lawler Lane, the site of the new Moriarty School.
Deanna Rhodes, a city staff member, explained the drainage for the new school "actually goes on to the adjacent property, which is also owned by the city," and said adding the parcel to the school lot "makes sense" because it consolidates maintenance responsibilities and helps with lot-coverage calculations for a larger school footprint. Rhodes told the council the adjustment "solves a couple of issues" related to drainage and coverage.
Council members asked clarifying questions about zoning and standards; Rhodes confirmed that school projects must follow the same zoning and public-review processes as other municipal properties. The resolution authorizing the city manager to execute and deliver the deed was adopted unanimously, 7–0. City staff said the deed will be recorded and zoning/lot records updated as required.
