Board authorizes outside consultants for flood control litigation
Summary
The board voted to authorize engagement of Sage Associates (and Meridian Engineering for related matters) as consultants for the Yuma County Flood Control District in City of Yuma v. Yuma County Flood Control District and authorized the district manager to sign the engagement letter.
During an executive session on Aug. 18 the Yuma County Board of Supervisors authorized hiring outside consultants in a flood control dispute with the City of Yuma.
A supervisor moved "to authorize and approve the engagement of Sage Associates as consultants for Yuma County Flood Control District in the case of City of Yuma versus Yuma County Flood Control District, then also [engage] Meridian Engineering Company on all related legal matters... and authorize the flood control district manager or the designee to sign the engagement letter," according to the motion read into the record.
After a second and brief discussion the board voted; the motion carried. The authorization directs the flood control district manager to execute the engagement letter and move forward with the consultants on matters related to the Market Park detention basin project and the associated claim and litigation.
Board materials and staff indicated the engagement is intended to provide technical and legal support in ongoing litigation and related project matters; the board did not discuss the monetary terms of the engagement during the public portion of the meeting.
