Hilliard City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 10 to sponsor an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency Market Development Grant application submitted by Armstrong World Industries.
David, an Armstrong representative, told council the company manufactures acoustic ceiling tiles in Hilliard and seeks the grant to implement equipment or processes that would capture paint waste, reduce the volume bound for landfill and lower contaminants entering water streams.
The grant requires a government sponsor; council member Cynthia Vermillion asked about current disposal practices and Armstrong said the grant would allow the company to extract paint waste and reduce landfill disposal. With no further questions, council adopted Resolution 25 R 89 on a 5–0 vote.
The resolution authorizes the city manager to apply for the grant on Armstrong’s behalf; details about the grant award, match requirements or timeline were not specified at the meeting.
