Caucus approves $300 donations to four community groups

The New Haven caucus voted to give $300 to each of four community organizations after hearing written requests from group representatives.

Madam Chair (Speaker 2) read requests from Larry Young Jr. of Total Control Entertainment, which is organizing a Christmas toy, coat and sneaker giveaway for children aged 3–18 on Dec. 12, 2025; from Daryl Daryl Sr., president of the New Haven Pop Warner Steelers (12U), asking for help offsetting $1,200 per-person travel costs to send players and coaches to the Pop Warner national championship; from the women of the Village Community Food Pantry seeking funds for Thanksgiving and holiday food distributions; and from the Wells Beacon Group Foundation Inc., which requested gifts and baskets for families recently transitioned from shelters into housing.

Alder (Speaker 3) moved that "we give each of the entities that we just discussed a donation of $300," and a fellow member seconded the motion. After brief supportive remarks about the caucus’s role in helping local organizations and the importance of additional fundraising, the chair called the vote. Members replied, "Aye," and the chair stated, "it passes," confirming the caucus had agreed to the donations.

Speaker 2 said the caucus would provide a treasury report and account balance the following day; she also noted the gala had sold at least 520 tickets and included ad revenue. No individual vote tallies were recorded on the transcript beyond the verbal affirmation of the motion and the chair’s declaration that the motion passed.

The caucus did not specify the exact account or timing for issuing the checks during the meeting; the chair committed to sharing that information with members in the forthcoming treasury report.
