The Mayor’s Council of Guam voted to allocate $2,000 from the parade balance to provide 20 cash prizes of $100 each for employees attending the council’s Dec. 12 Christmas party.
Council President moved the allocation, which was seconded by Mayor Mingi Lau, and approved by voice vote. Mayor Alvin reported the first fundraiser raised $3,408 and said the committee is aiming to lower ticket prices from $60 toward $50 as more funds are raised; the cutoff for purchasing or changing tickets was set for Dec. 4.
The Christmas committee described logistics: tickets are expected to be $60 at present; employees will be entered into a drawing from an employee roster as of Dec. 4 and only employees (not attendees generally) are eligible for the cash prizes. Committee members said there will be no door sales, and table assignment will be first-come for pre-purchased tickets. The committee also said raffle items will be distributed without interrupting the program.
The motion affects the parade balance and was passed without a recorded roll-call tally; the council approved the motion by voice vote with no opposition announced. Council members said additional donations will be accepted and that the committee will consider lowering ticket prices if subsequent fundraisers meet goals. The council set Dec. 4 as the deadline to finalize attendees and employee eligibility lists.
