Council endorses foundational median landscaping (curb, sod, irrigation) as cost‑conscious default

The presentation explained that 'theming' (tropical, shade, xeriscape) governs species selection but not intensity, so foundational installations can later be built out to higher intensity when appropriate.

Several council members urged a modest roll‑out to maximize lane miles improved with limited funds. Council asked staff to default to Floratam sod (rather than pollutant‑resistant bejiah) where irrigation will be installed and to prioritize irrigation where new medians are created. Staff said they will continue to pursue urban forestry and grant opportunities to fill tree plantings over time, while noting that some recent tree grants were lost and are not guaranteed.
