Helena parking lot pilot begins fee collection; city reports $81 on first day

Rose Horn, downtown parking supervisor, told the Downtown Parking Committee that the Helena parking lot pilot started accepting payments the day before the Nov. 13 meeting. The pilot is operating with temporary signs while staff issue courtesy warnings to help the public adapt to the new system.
"We collected $81 yesterday," Horn said, adding that weekends are likely to be busier and that staff are using pay‑and‑display now with a planned later transition to pay‑by‑plate to match Waterfront operations. She encouraged committee members to visit the lot and see the system in operation.
The committee thanked staff for the operational effort and noted the pilot as one of several FY26 budget and operational tweaks the department is monitoring.
