Trinidad — City staff presented the 90% plan submittal for the Main Street improvement project, funded by approximately $800,000 in state STIP funds, and the council voted to receive the report.
The project scope covers grind‑and‑repave pavement rehabilitation on Main Street, Patrick’s Point Drive and West Haven Drive, targeted safety upgrades and minor sidewalk widening on the south side of Main Street to meet ADA standards. Staff said construction is scheduled for summer 2026 and that the city must now proceed to advertise bids and secure a contractor in early 2026.
Why it matters: The project rebuilds key corridors that carry most local traffic and aims to extend pavement life and improve pedestrian safety. Staff noted the city has benefitted from STIP allocations in prior cycles and emphasized this round of funding may not recur for several years, making careful use of the allocation a priority.
Council questions focused on technical details — lane widths, driveway tie‑ins and the need for permission to access private driveways for construction transitions. Residents asked about staging, parking impacts, signage and how businesses would be served during work. Staff said they would notify affected property owners and businesses and return with bid documents later this winter.
Next steps: Staff to finalize bid documents, advertise the project, secure construction contracts and notify affected property owners and businesses before work begins in summer 2026.
