The Town Council took several administrative and policy votes at its Oct. 27 meeting. Items below are listed with the motion outcome and any recorded details.
- Approval of minutes (10/06/2025): Motion approved, unanimous.
- Shellfish license allocations for 2026: Council accepted the Shellfish Commissionrecommendation to keep allocations unchanged: unlimited resident recreational licenses, 25 nonresident recreational licenses, and one resident and one nonresident commercial license. Motion carried unanimously. (Shellfish Commission reported prior-year sales and small-scale seeding efforts.)
- Cumberland Salvage permits: Council approved an automobile graveyard/junkyard permit (10/31/2025through 10/31/2026) and an automobile recycling permit (10/31/2025through 10/31/2030) for Cumberland Salvage after code-enforcement inspection and recommendation. Vote unanimous.
- Kopp Motors automobile recycling permit: Council approved the requested permit (10/31/2025through 10/31/2030) following a favorable code-enforcement recommendation. Vote unanimous.
- Prince Memorial Library: Council authorized the library to submit a grant application to the Maine Semiquincentennial Commission for a digitization project (see separate article). Motion approved unanimously.
- Adoption of Maine Municipal Association general assistance ordinance (FY2026): Council held the required public hearing and adopted the MMA model general assistance ordinance for 10/01/2025to 09/30/2026. Vote unanimous.
- Acceptance of payment for delinquent taxes: Council authorized the town manager to accept a $3,500 payment on a property identified as R04/Lot004; documentation indicated a plan to retire the remaining balance by year-end. Motion approved unanimously.
- Acceptance of Cortland Court as a town road: After staff and developer presentations and confirmation of final inspections, warranty deeds and a two-year maintenance escrow, the council voted to accept Cortland Court (1,481 feet) as a public way. Vote unanimous. Councilors asked staff to prepare a policy workshop about criteria and the long-term costs of accepting private subdivision roads into the public road system.
Many actions were routine and supported by staff memos and code‑enforcement inspections; where appropriate the council asked for follow-up analysis (for example, on road-acceptance policy and the comp-plan implications of state law changes).
