Chippewa County board urges state to offset county costs from federal SNAP changes

The Chippewa County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve Resolution 33-25 urging the state of Wisconsin to provide funding to offset county fiscal impacts caused by enacted federal SNAP changes.

The resolution, approved without recorded dissent, directs the Chippewa County clerk to send copies to the governor, legislators who represent Chippewa County, the Wisconsin Counties Association and the Wisconsin County Human Services Association. The resolution asks the state to "work with counties to ensure adequate resources for the administration of food share and related programs," language taken from the version presented.

Supervisor discussion noted that several counties have raised similar concerns to the Wisconsin Counties Association and that joint advocacy was underway; one supervisor asked whether a percentage estimate of affected households could be inserted to strengthen state-level lobbying. The board did not amend the text at the meeting and approved the resolution as presented.
