Mount Lebanon—s administration presented a field-naming proposal on Oct. 13 that would name the Mount Lebanon High School football field for former coach and teacher Art Walker for a 10-year period in exchange for a $100,000 contribution.
Under the proposal given to the board, the naming rights would be granted for 10 years for a contribution payable either in a lump sum or in annual installments. The recommended financial handling called for district receipt of the funds into a separate account and disbursement based on athletic department needs; the administration said any project requiring municipal approval (for example, installing lighting on an upper practice field) would proceed only if municipal permits and approvals were obtained.
Donor committee representatives and members of the public spoke in support of honoring Walker and described his long service and community impact. A donor committee speaker who attended the meeting said Walker did not yet know about the proposal and that the committee intends to work with district officials to finalize language. He confirmed that by legal requirement the gift must be made to the district rather than directed through an external 501(c)(3).
The superintendent said the district will bring a finalized agreement back for board action next week (Oct. 20) and that the administration would report back on recommended allocations of the donated funds. No naming-rights vote was taken Oct. 13; the item will appear on the Oct. 20 agenda.
