Clermont commissioners approve renewal plus 0.2‑mill increase for children's services; measure to appear on Nov. 4 ballot

The Clermont County Board of Commissioners voted July 23 to place a renewal and modest increase to the county children's services levy on the Nov. 4, 2025 ballot.
Dottie Meyer of the Department of Job and Family Services asked the board to "authorize the placement of a renewal tax levy in the amount of 0.8 or 8 tenths mil... and an increase of 0.2 tenths mil" for five years, with collections beginning in 2027. Meyer said the request responds to a placement‑cost crisis and to continuing needs to "protect children in this county." Meyer told the board that the current voter‑authorized rate is 0.8 mills but the effective rate (after adjustments) is lower; with the requested 0.2‑mill increase the effective county rate would be about 0.66 mills if voters approve it.
The board voted (2–1) to adopt Resolution 110‑25 and place the question on the ballot. The roll call recorded Commissioner Bonnie Bachelor: Yes; Commissioner David Painter: Yes; Commissioner Claire Corcoran: No.
The resolution cites Ohio Revised Code provisions governing levy placement (sections 5705.24 and 5705.03(b) as read into the record). If approved by voters, the levy would be collected 2027–2031 to support children's services and care and placement of children.
